The stupidity of the Republicans backing an amnesty bill cannot be overstated. Thus I find that once again, I have to remind those in the party just what the people out in the heartland think of their foolishness. Here is the letter that I will be sending out to members of the Republican leadership regarding amnesty. Feel free to use this as a template for your own letter.
Dear Representative,
I am writing to you to let you know that I am opposed to the current efforts to provide amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens who have come into the United States. I do not believe that it is in the best interests of the country or of the citizens of our nation to do so. Such legislation undermines our already fragile economy and our national sovereignty.
At a time when millions of people are out of work and the economy is struggling, it makes no sense to bring in millions more to further expand the ranks of those are looking for work. Right now, many millions of American citizens have been trying desperately to find work in a very tight job market. Flooding the country with illegal aliens only makes their situation more difficult. Jobs are scarce. We should be trying to help Americans find work by solving our economic problems rather than importing additional people who will compete with those who are already out of work and trying to find jobs.
Legalizing the millions of people who have broken the law to cross our borders also undermines the relationship between the citizens and their government. It tells us that our representatives are not listening to the people, and do not understand that a democracy rests on a foundation of legitimacy. Without this legitimacy, the trust that makes a free nation possible breaks down.
Those who know our history know the great sacrifices that America made to eliminate servitude in this country. Do we really want to repeat the mistakes of the past? We have no need of a new slave class in this country. What we do need is to focus on solving the problems that we already have rather than adding to them.
We know that most Americans don’t want this legislation. They understand that it weakens the country and does not serve the interests of the people. And we also know that support for the Republican Party establishment is already very weak due to the leadership’s unwillingness to support its conservative principles. Support for amnesty by Republicans would send a clear message that the base should leave the party and give it no more support, either now or in the future. Therefore I urge you not to make this mistake. Do not support amnesty for illegal aliens.
