Chu Chooses High Gas Prices for You

The Politico brings us this story covering the testimony of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who said that the administration was not concerned with lowering the price of gasoline.

If you drive a car you may have noticed that gas prices have been going up and that it costs you more to fill up your tank. I have to commute to get to my job and I can tell you that my transportation costs have certainly been going up. But if you are not much of a political junkie, then you probably didn’t pay much attention during the campaign when The Obama Fuhrer told us that it was his goal to make energy prices “skyrocket” and that he wanted to drive coal companies into bankruptcy.

I trust that now he has gotten your attention.

And while you may be tempted to blame the oil companies, you should realize that this Obama policy is deliberate. Oil companies are just interested in selling us oil, and they would like to sell us more of it if they could. But the Obama administration is waging a war against the free market, including the energy sector of the economy. They don’t want you to have access to affordable energy because that makes you harder to control. The left wants to control you as much as they can, and transportation is a vital link in the chain that they are wrapping around us tighter every day. So when you go to the pump you may want to remember that the high price that you are paying is not an accident, or the result of “corporate greed”; it’s the direct result of this administration trying to prevent you from having energy in the first place.

“I can’t look at motivations. I have to look at results. And under this administration the price of gasoline has doubled,” [Congressman Alan] Nunnelee told Chu.
“The people of north Mississippi can’t be here, so I have to be here and be their voice for them,” Nunnelee added. “I have to tell you that $8 a gallon gasoline makes them afraid. It’s a cruel tax on the people of north Mississippi as they try to go back and forth to work. It’s a cloud hanging over economic development and job creation.”
Chu expressed sympathy but said his department is working to lower energy prices in the long term. …
“But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down, asked Nunnelee.
“No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy,” Chu replied. “We think that if you consider all these energy policies, including energy efficiency, we think that we can go a long way to becoming less dependent on oil and [diversifying] our supply and we’ll help the American economy and the American consumers.”

Now you may have some doubts about what the administration has been doing in this regard. Since The Elite Media Monoculture has not gone out of its way to point out the continuing anti-capitalist, anti-energy pattern of this administration, I can understand that you might think that this is a bit of an exaggeration. So let me also direct you to this story from The Washington Examiner that provides a list of actions that President Ukel/Dumb Bastard has taken to attack and stop energy production that would benefit Americans at the pump. You can judge for yourself whether these policies are good for you and your ability to get the energy that you need for your daily life.

  • – Immediately after taking office in 2009, Obama canceled 77 leases for oil and gas drilling in Utah.
  • – In January 2010, Obama issued new regulations making it more difficult to develop energy resources on federal land.
  • – After the BP oil spill, Obama needlessly instituted, not one, but two outright drilling bans in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • – After rescinding his outright offshore drilling ban, Obama then refused to issue any new drilling permits in the Gulf, a policy that the Energy Information Administration estimated would cut domestic offshore oil production by 13% that year.
  • – Under Obama, in 2010 the federal government issued the lowest number of onshore leases since 1984.
  • – Under Obama the federal government has leased less than half of the offshore acres that President Clinton did.
  • – The Obama administration held just one offshore lease sale in all of fiscal year 2011. President Bush’s energy plan called for five.
  • –  Obama is also blocking access to 19 billion barrels of oil in the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and the eastern Gulf of Mexico, another 10 billion barrels estimated in the Chukchi Sea off the Alaskan coast, and another 10 billion barrels of oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.
