The elites are surely having a collective cow in the last few weeks. Boehner forced to step down from his ineffectual position. Trump continuing to attract voters who want to kick the establishment out of their comfortable positions of power and wealth. A left-wing pope attacking the Western Civilization that he is supposed to be protecting and garnering plenty of criticism in the process. And lefty media unable to understand why they can’t push Hillary any higher in the polls than your local wino. There is certainly quite a lot going on that shows the cracks in the edifice of the cathedral. I hope, like many others, that these are positive signs for the future.
The phenomenon of Trump and the collapse of Boehner’s position would seem to be closely tied together to many observers and is certainly instructive. Many pundits have pointed out that the performance of outsiders in the Republican primary is sending a strong message of no confidence to the establishment that does not care about or respond to the party base, and is overtly hostile to its own supporters.
By all accounts someone like Trump shouldn’t be in the running. He is not a professional politician and has no previous political experience. But he has risen to the top of the heap largely because he is willing to throw political correctness on the trash heap that it deserves. And the other top candidates like Carson and Fiorina are getting attention because they too are not part of the elite Washington club inside the beltway.
The regular American citizen is sick and tired of the self-appointed elites thinking that they are our betters and that they have the right to tell us what to think, what to say, what we can believe. Thought control is a standard tool of authoritarians and I think most regular people are fed up with it. It has no place in the political culture of America and we have gotten to the point where the Marxist speech codes have become so obvious that it can no longer be ignored.
